Become a Truck Driver at Colonial Cartage
A new year offers new opportunities for change and growth.
Finding new employment isn’t just about paying bills and buying groceries; it’s about joining a collaborative team working towards a shared goal. A company that thrives on long-standing partnerships with customers and encourages its employees to get the best out of their positions is more than an employer; it’s a family.
In some ways, the position of big rig operator is a lonely one. Long days out on the road, away from friends and family, can be difficult. The right 3PL company ensures drivers always feel supported and surrounded by like-minded colleagues.
Truck Drivers in the United States
Truck drivers are increasingly in demand in the United States. The drop in the transportation of goods throughout the COVID-19 pandemic meant many drivers changed jobs and moved away from logistics. Unpleasant or unsafe working environments also turn off potential employees. After the pandemic, when the logistics industry began ramping up again, companies were placing undue pressure on drivers to meet unrealistic schedules while providing them with little support.
Any transportation company operating in the United States should follow regulations outlined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association (FMCSA), which include:
- Time on the Road: A driver can drive for eleven consecutive hours provided they have previously had ten consecutive hours off-duty. A driver must take a 30-minute break after eight consecutive hours of driving.
- Extra Time in Adverse Conditions: If drivers encounter adverse conditions, they can extend their driving limit by two hours to navigate their route safely.
With a reliable company providing good benefits and reasonable working schedules, the position of a driver comes with many perks, including:
- Discover New Places: Driving an LTL carrier across the contiguous United States allows you to see new parts of the country. From the prairies of the Great Plains to the fall leaves of the mid-Atlantic, the mountains of north Georgia to Virginia, and the low country of the southeastern coastline, Colonial’s service area has landscapes for everyone.
- Meet New People: As you travel across the country, you’ll encounter new people. Meeting new people improves communication skills, teaches us about other cultures and ways of life, and fosters soft skills invaluable in any working environment.
- Enjoy Your Own Time and Space on the Job: Whether you prefer to listen to music or podcasts is more your thing, driving gives you plenty of time to indulge in listening and learning, while still focusing on safe driving. Nothing is more important than safe driving for you, your fellow travelers, and the contents of the load under your care.
